So what did kill the cat? (Was it curiosity?)

Everyone know the proverb curiosity killed the cat, but is it really the case?

While I was reading a book I came across this phrase that everyone knows and takes for granted. And because the book I was reading wasn’t really all that interesting anyway, I looked it up. What book? Not telling 🙂

The fact is, that although curiosity can put people (and cats) in dangerous situations, it won’t kill you if you’re careful.

Quite ironic, considering that the original proverb is care killed the cat, isn’t it?

So what is it that really we should be worried about?

That is the answer in itself.
Worry
The expression care killed the cat, is referring to the fact that if we do nothing but worry, thinking about “our cares and woes” (forgive the olde English, but it’s where the origin is) we can waste away through nine lives. But we have only one life. Why waste it on worry?

It’s in our nature to worry, to think “What If”
That is what really hurts us.

Stop thinking about the “What ifs” in life. Start thinking about What IS

If you love, then love with all your heart. If you have faith, then believe with all your soul, if you are intelligent, then use your mind fully. If you have worries, look back on the last three things, and be thankful.

What worries, cares and woes can you give up today?

Freedom from…

For a long time, I couldn’t help myself
I was addicted! To Chocolate; to Tv; to Manga; to books; to ice cream; to computer games; to lying in bed all day! (actually I’m still working on that last one…)

Many people think “oh, those aren’t serious addictions, they’re just life!”

Get into it!

Whatever you’re doing wherever you go;
Get into it!

20120907-234751.jpg

When you’re out and about, don’t be half-hearted about things.

Have you ever been out with a group of friends, and one of them says

“Whatever, I’m not really in the mood but…”

20120907-235931.jpg
Or someone just stays quiet, watches and doesn’t try to get involved.

It really dampens people’s spirits, and makes others feel uncomfortable.
I’ve been guilty of this more than once. Less in recent years.

If you’re involved in something get involved. Take the lead once in a while, see what happens when you’re out with people and want to do things. If everyone in the group is having fun, then it’s easy to keep it that way, figure out what to do, or just be together.

20120907-235748.jpg

Think about it for a second: your getting ready to go out (guys 15 mins max, girls 30 mins minimum – in my experience), you head out the door, you’re thinking about the day ahead, the people you see and what you’ll do together…What atmosphere do you want to add to today?

It’s more fun with friends

Whatever you are doing, why do it alone?

Whether its going to a restaurant, eating at home or playing outside on a sunny day, it’s more fun to do it with someone!

Something I gained in Lifegroup

When I first went to Lifegroup, I had no idea what it was about, only that some people got together to study the Bible,

and I couldn’t think of anything more boring than that other than watching paint dry.

Since that was my only other choice most Sundays, I decided to give it a try. I’d already decided to be a Christian, so why not learn more about it.

When I got there, I didn’t know what to think. There was a group of people, sitting and having coffee together (or in my case, hot chocolate) and chatting and laughing.

Image

They looked like normal people! Well, here is the breaking news…
They Are!
I was confused, weren’t we supposed to be sitting down and seriously diving “deep” into the Bible and talking about weird stuff?

Image

What I really found was a group of friends. Not just people passing through my life, and not people who were there the one week, and gone the next. These people were there for me every week.

Image

More than that, They were there for me during the week too; having breakfast together, and celebrating my birthday.
Every low point in my life those friends are still there for me, and every high point, those same friends are right there to be happy with me.

What did I gain in Lifegroup?
I gained friends

What would you gain from a Lifegroup?

How to get to JLH

Something I learned in Lifegroup.

One of the best things that ever happened to me is joining Lifegroup.
A small group of people meet and share about the amazing things happening in our lives, and the victories over the trials in them.
We give each other good advice, share about what we believe, Read the bible together and have a lot of fun.
Wait a minute… Read the bible AND have fun? Contrary to popular belief, it IS possible.
I used to think that reading the bible was a recipe for boredom:

Take one story about a man who did a bunch of stuff years ago
Add in a lots of names and numbers
Stir it in with a bunch of rules
And let it cook for 2000 years…

NOT!

It’s more like this:

Take stories of people doing action movie-like feats of heroism
Add in lots of stories of romance, treachery and ridiculous bad-guys
Stir it in with the ultimate heroic ending
And see how it keeps on nourishing people for 2000 years

In Lifegroup I learned not to be so prejudiced about things I don’t know about.

Where do you go to grow and learn?

Keep Going!

The other day I went jogging for the first time in a really long time.

I’m not a jogger. I can dance for hours and walk pretty far, but have always told myself that I can’t run for even 30 seconds.

but when I went jogging this time, a friend told me

“Keep on going, you can do it.”

I found that with help, encouragement and challenge, I could go harder and faster than I ever could by my own strength.

In life, we can only get so far by ourselves. With our own strength alone, we can only go as far as we think we can.

How far can you go in life under your own strength?
What do you have in your life that will take you further?

Just in time

I’m not exactly the best at getting things done in advance. Usually I get things done just in the nick of time.

It isn’t the best way to do things. It’s better to be prepared way in advance, and to know exactly what you’re going to do when an event comes up.
But even though that way is best, you shouldn’t give up if you haven’t prepared. Things can be done right up until the moment that something starts.

It’s the same with life.

It’s always best to live our lives the best way from the beginning. But even right up until the end, there is chance to change, and a hope for something better.

When are you going to make that choice?

I am who I am

What am I?

I am loved

I am blessed

I am beautifully and wonderfully made

I have a great life ahead of me

There is nothing in this world that I can’t cope with

I am free

So are you.

So you can be, too.

Do you know that you are loved unconditionally?
